Attacks Against Each Other's Supporters in Puncak Jaya, Indigenous Papuan Political Elites Said to be the Main Trigger

Mulia– A social media post uploaded via Naftall Tipagau's Facebook account has sparked widespread attention after calling the government the source of the conflict of attacks between supporters of candidate pairs number 1 and 2 in Puncak Jaya Regency in the 2024 Pilkada.

However, this information was confirmed as a hoax that only caused unrest in the community.

According to several sources, the conflict was not actually triggered by the government, but by the immaturity of the Indigenous Papuan (OAP) political elite in Puncak Jaya Regency who were competing for votes.

Instead of resolving differences democratically, each camp chose to use the power of the masses to defend their claims, which ultimately led to clashes between supporters.

A Puncak Jaya resident, who declined to be named, criticized Naftall Tipagau's post. He called the accusations against the government a form of deception.

“Those competing in the Puncak Jaya Pilkada are the Papuan people themselves, not the central government. So, blaming the government is an unwise move,” he said.

He also highlighted the involvement of certain groups suspected of having hidden political agendas. The Political Criminal Group (KKP) and the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) are considered to be taking advantage of the situation by spreading hoaxes to strengthen the issue of Papuan Independence.

“We all know that the KKP and KKB often play up any issue for the purpose of Papuan Independence. They deliberately spread false information, blame the government, and attract the attention of the international world, so that the public hates the government,” he added.

The Papuan people are urged to be wiser in responding to information circulating, especially on social media. Avoid being provoked by hoaxes and prioritize maturity in sorting out information that is useful for mutual peace.
