Former KKB Figure Urges Papuan People to Create Public Order and Order Ahead of Simultaneous Regional Elections

Jayapura - Former High Commander of the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM), Lambert Pekikir invited to create security and public order (kamtibmas) ahead of the simultaneous regional head elections (Pilkada) on November 27 2024.

"I urge all Papuan people to work together to maintain security and ensure the creation of social security and order to continue the process of implementing the regional elections in all districts in Tanah Papua, especially in the Tabi - Saireri area," said Lambert in a written statement, Friday (28/9/2024) evening.

Lambert also asked groups that are still at odds with the Government of the Republic of Indonesia not to create security conditions that are not conducive, both before and after the Pilkada.

"Let's not be divided just because there is a candidate who did not pass the regional elections. "We must prioritize good dialogue to resolve a problem," he said while firmly rejecting separatist activities.

Lambert asked the public to maintain the unity and integrity of the nation within the framework of the Republic of Indonesia by making the regional elections successful and safe and peaceful.

The Papuan People's Council (MRP) also conveyed the same invitation. Deputy Chair II of the MRP, Max Abner Ferdinan Ohee, said that anyone who lives in Papua is obliged to maintain peace and asked them to jointly oversee the 2024 regional head election (Pilkada) process.

"Currently the election stages are underway, let's work together to succeed in a safe and peaceful simultaneous regional election so that we get regional leaders as expected, namely building a more prosperous Papua," said Max Ohee.

Chair of the MRP Traditional Working Group, Raymond May said the same thing. He invited the public to oversee the Pilkada implementation process so that the elected leaders truly get the support and aspirations of the community.

“Let us realize and succeed in a safe and peaceful simultaneous regional election. "We will elect leaders at both provincial and district and city levels on November 27," he said.

On the same occasion, the Chair of the MRP Regional Election Special Committee, Izak Hikoyabi, hoped that the implementation of the Regional Election would be fair and of high quality.

Izak invited all components of society, including voters, organizers, candidates and political parties, to ensure that the elections run according to the rules.

"Peaceful elections produce quality leaders and organizers," said Izak.

He asked the candidates when campaigning to convey a message of development and invite the public to orderly carry out fair elections.

The same hope was also conveyed to the KPU and Bawaslu. Izak said that election organizers can uphold justice because the people's vote is the voice of God which must be carefully guarded until the definitive regional leader is elected.
